Brand new cookery show set to air in the New Year
Filming is underway for brand new cookery series Reality Bites, which kicks off shortly after Christmas. Presented by Lincolnshire Chef Steven Bennett, Reality Bites takes eight of the best catering students from four colleges across our region and pits them against each other in the kitchens of some of the very best restaurants North and South of the Humber.
Stepping out of the classroom for the very first time, the students’ skills will be tested to the limit when they have to deliver in a professional, working kitchen. Aspiring chefs of tomorrow from Lincoln College, East Riding College, Grimsby Institute and Scarborough TEC, will be challenged to prepare and cook dishes selected by some of the most talented and experienced Head Chefs in the region. Viewers will see what it really takes to produce a variety of cuisines on time and to restaurant standard. How will the cooks of tomorrow respond when out of their comfort zones?
Over the course of 13 episodes, the candidates will be whittled down to two just finalists – one from the North Bank and one from the South – who will then have to put everything they’ve learnt into practice to produce a meal that wows the judges and claims the crown, in the restaurant of award winning 4 star hotel Tickton Grange.
Along the way we’ll get to see some of the best food our region has to offer, from gorgeous Italian at San Pietro in Scunthorpe, to the finest Indian dishes prepared in the open kitchen of Tapasya on the Marina in Hull. Or perhaps you prefer your fine dining in the less formal surroundings of the Black Horse, Little Weighton or Nala Brasserie, Cleethorpes. Every one of the seven restaurants featured in the series offer very different menus to each other but they all have one thing in common – a passion to create beautiful food from the very best local ingredients.
Everyone taking part in Reality Bites is also committed to supporting the education and the development of skills of young people in our region. The students can expect to go on to have rewarding careers in catering, and maybe one day they’ll be cooking for you in our regions best restaurants.
